Online Payment Problems.
December 4th, 2006
I recently ran into some serious problem with my web host. My invoice was overdue and I could not pay. The visa debit card I’ve used for over a year was now being declined. Reason? Address mismatch error. Where did that come from?! The visa card has been valid until now.
I initially thought this was a problem with my web host. So, I tried t use the card on another site. It was rejected. I was really pissed. I wrote a stinker to the visa card issuer. They told me not to panic. It’s a security issue……the card processor probably mapped the originating IP address (which is from Nigeria) with the card details. Knowing that Nigeria had been blacklisted by most credit card processors, I lost hope.
I had to give the visa card issuer my web host login details so they could update my payment details. A security risk for me, of course. I had no choice. I have to look for alternative means to pay my next invoice
Is it legal for processors to blacklist countries? I’m going to find out.
